First things first, we're an 18+ site. Please respect our wishes. We know we look like a really fun site, but wait until you're over 18 years old.
Character creation:
ABSOLUTELY NO PLAGIARISM. YOU ARE A WRITER AND THIS SHOULD GO WITHOUT SAYING, BUT USE ONLY YOUR OWN WORK. PLAGIARISM IS ILLEGAL IN THE WRITING WORLD. IN OUR WORLD, YOU WILL IMMEDIATELY BE BANNED.
This site is PG-13 rating. Just because we're 18+ doesn't mean we want to see content above that, ok?
Our application can be found here: [x] Have fun!
Onto playbys now! A playby is the person who represents what your character looks like. They have to be real humans, and we limit them to celebrities or those who are famous, like Youtubers or models. You wouldn't want a random person stealing one of your photos off your facebook to represent a character so don't do it to other people, okay?
There's a list of banned playbys too. These people have specifically said they wish not to be used, and we at PoD respect their wishes. Being a part of our community means you do too! If you list one of them on your app, we will ask you to choose another, so let's just skip that awkward step of us having to tell you.
List of Banned Playbys/Face Claims:
(Requested by the playbys themselves)
➽ Zoe Kimball
➽ Lara Jade
➽ Frieda Rose
➽ Lauren Peralta
➽ TwiggyX
➽ Alice Cheynet
➽ Cameron Ugh
➽ Samantha Cormier
Normally to create a new character, you'll need 25 posts on the most recently created character. However, the site is new so your first three are free! Once you hit the third, you're going to have to make those 25 posts though. Go threading and go wild!
There's no limit to the amount of characters you can make! That being said, please limit yourself to the amount you can keep active. It's always fun to create a new character but don't neglect your previous characters. That'll make them feel sad. Keep them active so they know you love them.
Some celebrities are genderfluid. That means they're not defined by simply male or female. Please respect the playby's stated gender pronoun (he, she, they) when you're filling out your face claims.
Your Activity
At Powers of Division, you have to post at least once a month on every character you have. One post will keep only that character safe. If you don't post on the others, they'll be retired. Make that post to keep them active and on the board.
That being said, characters can be brought back from retirement! Ask a staff member and they'll help you out. If you want to do the opposite and retire one of your characters, just ask us again and it'll be done.
Applications that haven't been touched for over two weeks will be denied. All denied applications are saved by staff, and if you want to work on it again, you can PM a staff member at any time and they'll bring the app back!
We understand sometimes you have to go off the site and be absent. We all have lives to live. However, please post an absence telling us about how long you'll be gone for. We'll in turn keep your characters safe.
Word Count
Been on a site where you had to worry about word count or site level? No worries. Powers of Division doesn't have either of those! Our only stipulation is that you not post a one sentence post. The only reason we have that stipulation is for your own good. You can't develop your writing with one sentence, and it also makes it difficult for people to reply to you. Other than that, post as much or as little as you like. Maybe you're brand new to RPing. Maybe you've been doing this for ages. Either way, you're very welcome here!
Any kind of format is allowed in posts. Want to make your format fancy? Go for it! Want to skip the format and just write? Still go for it! The only thing we ask is that you keep it readable and to keep glaring colours out of it. Nobody needs our eyes hurt by that. It also makes it more difficult to reply to you that way, so for everyone's sake just don't hurt our eyes.
OOC Chatbox/OOC Behaviour
OOC means 'Out of Character'. That means we're talking about you directly, not your character.
As for your behaviour, we want you to follow the golden rule. Do to others what you would want in return. Be respectful whether you're in the cbox or out of it! Attacking a person for their beliefs and stances will result in punishment. Yes you can have different opinions, but be tolerant of others. That's non-negotiable.
Topics that are triggering should also be dealt with respectfully. When we talk about trigger warnings, we aren't talking about an opinion you do not like. We are talking about threads or chats or discussions about very sensitive topics. This is a big thing, and we staff at Powers of Division take this seriously. You should too. Why would you want to drive a fellow rper to the edge? That would be mean and definitely not in the spirit of our site.
Disrespect includes but is not limited to racism, sexism, transphobia, homophobia and ableism. We want everyone to feel welcome here. Don't be mean! If you feel a line's been crossed, by another member or even staff, please contact one of the staff and tell them. Especially if it's staff in question. We should be setting an example.
On a bit of a lighter note, don't do extensive plotting in the main cbox. Getting things started with ideas is perfectly fine, but the details should be taken to PMs. Besides, if you talk about it publicly we won't be surprised! You'd essentially be giving out spoilers for your own stuff!
Also, please do not clique post. We know it's fun to thread with your best friends, but if you're only threading with the same person over and over without trying to plot with anyone else, it can come off as mean and kinda disrespectful. Please try to avoid threading with only one person. Besides, it's way more fun to post with more people!
On the other side of that though, don't nag and pester someone repeatedly for plots, posts or threads. Sometimes people can be swamped with things outside Powers of Division. Everyone goes at their own pace and they're entitled to that as long as they're meeting the site post criteria. They'll eventually get to you. If it's been a few days though, feel free to poke them in the ribs (gently!) to ask politely if they forgot about you. If they've got lots going on, that can happen. We urge you to have patience.
This is a forum rp site. This means you don't have to be online at the same time as the person you're threading with. Once you reply to them, it will be in the thread to reply to when they find their way on the site!
Combat
Very important to read this part! As Powers of Division includes missions and combat among characters, it's important to establish some rules.
Firstly, no godmodding or powerplaying. For those who are not aware of what those mean, godmodding is when your character has no limits on what they can do. In other words, you've made them basically a GOD. This is not allowed, as it is unfair to whoever you are battling. Besides, characters without weaknesses have very little to improve upon, and they often have very little room to grow personality-wise. No godmodding. Powerplaying is when your character does something to another character. For example, 'Bob kicks Bill in the teeth' is not allowed. 'Bob aims a kick at Bill's teeth' would be allowed. You must only TRY at the action. And if the person you're rping with replies with 'Bill feels the kick in the teeth Bob delivered' then you should allow Bill to get a blow in on your character in return. It's common etiquette. Do not block every attack from your opponent. If you do, that goes back to godmodding and making your character unbeatable. No-one is unbeatable. Always leave the possibility. YOU CANNOT KILL YOUR OPPONENT UNLESS THE USER BEHIND THAT CHARACTER HAS EXPRESSLY GIVEN PERMISSION OUT OF CHARACTER FOR YOU TO DO SO.
You are allowed to do things within reason with Non Player Characters. Please do not make yourself the mayor, and also do not commit a massacre. Same goes for anything that would be considered plot for the site at large. The staff decide which of those things happens when.
You may be thinking 'well what happens if I do these things? If I powerplay?' If someone godmods or powerplays, they get their characters banned from the arena or other combat situations for a certain amount of time depending on how severe the transgression was. The more incidents that occur with you powerplaying the longer the punishment becomes.
I know it said we have no word count other than no 'one sentence posts'. However, if you are in combat, you need to describe your attacks. Your opponent needs to know what they are getting into. Whether your ice attack is a giant blizzard they need to wade through, whether it is a barrage of small icicles, or whether you are simply giving them a chill. The power of your attack and the nature of it needs to be described so they know how to react to it.
If you are in an official duel with another character, some other rules apply.
Terms of Service
We understand that a lot of things are going to go down and characters can get into all sorts of scrapes and trouble. However, we ask that you keep the sex, violence etc, within the PROBOARDS TOS.
Some threads can trigger others. Triggering is not a joke. That is an effect it can have on people that could end up with great anxiety or danger for that person. Triggering threads need to be marked with what's in them, like excessive violence, self-harm, drugs, suicide etc. You need to warn your buddies on the site because they might be thread stalking!
Also, if something is escalating, like horny to doing the deed, we ask you to fade to black or skip ahead. That counts for violence too. If you're getting into nitty gritty detail about it, you might be a bit too far and might want to employ that fade to black.
Swearing's allowed, but remember the more your character swears the more that loses its punch. If you have any questions about what might be going too far, PLEASE ASK.
Overall
We want everyone to have fun! Feel free to message any staff about any questions or suggestions you might have. We'll get to you ASAP! We want to make the site awesome so we can all have fun on it. We hope you enjoy writing with all of us at Powers of Division.
